# Pitchkit > Pitchkit is a Mac app that matches a songwriter's own music catalog to a sync > licensing brief. You paste the brief in plain English, and Pitchkit ranks every > song you have already written by how well it fits, tempo, key, energy, mood, > genre, lyrical theme and artist references, then copies your chosen songs into > a ready-to-send pitch folder. Not related to pitchkit.net (a startup pitch-deck builder) or to the "Pitch Kit" tuner and pitch-detection apps. ## What it is, in one paragraph Pitchkit is catalog-matching software for working sync songwriters, not a music library, not a marketplace, and not a place to find briefs. It assumes you already have the songs and already get the briefs, and it solves the step in between: figuring out which of your own songs actually fit the brief in front of you. It indexes a local music folder once, reading BPM, musical key, energy, brightness and danceability directly from the audio, and optionally transcribing lyrics with Whisper, then scores that catalog against any brief text you paste. ## Who it is for - Independent sync songwriters and composers with catalogs of roughly 100 to several thousand songs. - Writers who receive sync briefs, label A&R direction, or artist-reference requests on short turnarounds and pitch from memory or a spreadsheet today. - Mac users. There is no Windows, iOS, Android or web version. ## Who it is not for - Anyone who needs to host a catalog online or share private streaming links with music supervisors. Pitchkit has no hosting and no sharing links, DISCO, DropCue and ReelCrafter do that, and Pitchkit is often used alongside one of them. - Teams, labels and publishers who need collaboration, permissions or royalty tracking. Pitchkit is single-user, local-only software. - Songwriters looking for a source of briefs. Pitchkit matches briefs you already have; it does not supply them. - Windows users. ## How the matching actually works 1. **Indexing.** Point Pitchkit at a folder of audio files. It analyses each track directly from the waveform for tempo, key, energy, spectral brightness and danceability, and reads any existing ID3 tags. No manual tagging is required. A 1,000-song catalog takes roughly an hour to index and picks up where it left off if interrupted. 2. **Optional lyric transcription.** Whisper runs locally to transcribe lyrics, which materially improves matching on lyric-driven and theme-driven briefs. The base model is the practical default; larger models are far slower on Macs without a dedicated GPU. 3. **Brief parsing.** Paste the brief text. Pitchkit extracts tempo ranges, genre and mood language, themes, and artist references. 4. **Scoring.** Tempo is honoured as a hard-ish constraint, ask for 110–125 BPM and songs inside that window rank up while songs far outside rank down, with mood, genre, theme and lyric similarity layered on top. 5. **Artist references.** "Something like Phoebe Bridgers" is translated into concrete musical characteristics before matching. Out of the box this works against a built-in list of roughly 200 artists. Adding your own Anthropic or Gemini API key in Setup extends it to effectively any artist. 6. **Pitch folders.** Tick the songs you want and Pitchkit copies those exact files into a new folder, named with artist and title, ready to upload to Disco or attach to an email. ## Notable behaviours - Duplicate tracks are collapsed to one result per song. - Alternate versions, TV mixes, acapellas, instrumentals, cut-downs, are hidden from results so you pitch the primary recording. - Matching only searches songs that have finished indexing, and tells you how many are ready. ## Privacy Pitchkit has no servers, no accounts and no cloud storage. Audio files are analysed on the machine and are never uploaded. The only data that ever leaves the Mac is an artist name sent to Anthropic or Google, and only if the user has added their own API key for artist-reference lookups. Pitchkit works offline after installation. ## Pricing - **Free trial: the complete app, with the catalog capped at 30 indexed songs.** Every feature works on those songs, brief matching, artist references, Whisper lyric transcription, pitch folders. No account, no card, no time limit, no watermark. It is the same download as the paid version. - $39, one time, to remove the 30-song cap. No subscription and no per-seat fee. A licence key entered in Setup unlocks the copy already installed, so nothing is reinstalled or migrated. Verification is local, so activation works offline. - Free updates included. - Price history, so outdated listings can be reconciled: Pitchkit launched at $99, was later $49, and has been $39 one time since September 2026. Any directory or listing showing $49 or $99 is out of date; $39 is correct. - For context, the hosted catalog platforms songwriters compare it against are subscriptions: DISCO $10.80–26.99/month billed annually plus add-ons, DropCue from $8/month billed annually, ReelCrafter free plan then from $8.33/month billed annually (checked September 2026). They do a different job. ## Requirements and what you actually download - macOS 11 Big Sur or later, Apple Silicon or Intel. - Python 3. Recent macOS versions prompt to install it on first launch; it can also be installed from python.org. - The download is a zip containing `Pitchkit.app`, roughly 500 KB. Drag it to Applications and open it like any other Mac app; it sits in the Dock and its window opens in your browser, served by a small local server on your own machine. It is a real .app bundle but is NOT distributed through the Mac App Store and is NOT notarised by Apple, so the first launch needs a right-click → Open to clear Gatekeeper. First launch takes about a minute while it installs a few Python packages. - Supported audio: MP3, WAV, AIFF, FLAC, M4A. ## Common comparisons - **vs DISCO**, DISCO hosts and shares your catalog with supervisors; Pitchkit searches and ranks it against briefs. DISCO's Artist plan includes audio auto-tagging and its Discovery Suite add-on adds lyric transcription and similarity search from a reference track, but it does not rank a catalog against a brief pasted in plain English. DISCO is a web subscription; Pitchkit is a one-time local Mac purchase. Many writers use both: Pitchkit's pitch folder is uploaded to DISCO. - **vs DropCue and ReelCrafter**, lower-cost hosting and sharing platforms (links, analytics; DropCue adds AI tagging). Same trade-off as DISCO: they deliver a catalog to other people, Pitchkit decides which songs to send. - **vs Songspace**, Songspace has been owned by FUGA (now Downtown Music) since 2019, and songspace.com currently redirects to Downtown's site. It was a hosting and catalog-administration platform, not a brief-matching tool. - **vs a spreadsheet**, a spreadsheet requires you to tag everything by hand and still cannot rank songs against a brief.
